This site is a reference publication. It collects as little as possible.

Who is responsible
The Spore Patch Ltd is the data controller for this website. Registered in England and Wales under company number 17315874. Registered office: 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA. Registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference CSN9673396.
Information collected
This website does not require an account to read any page, and does not ask visitors to submit personal information in order to do so. No supplements or products are sold here, and no payment information is handled. Three narrow categories of information exist: aggregate visit statistics, correspondence you choose to send, and sign-in details for authorised editorial accounts.
Purposes and lawful bases
- Aggregate visit statistics — to understand how the published record is used and to maintain the site. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running and improving a public reference publication), balanced against the fact that these statistics are aggregate and not used to profile individuals.
- Correspondence — to answer enquiries and, where appropriate, to assess and publish corrections to the record. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (responding to readers and maintaining an accurate published record).
- Editorial accounts — to operate the internal evidence review console and restrict it to authorised people. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (security and editorial control of unpublished material).
- Security and reliability logs — to protect the site against abuse and diagnose faults. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set by this site, and no automated decision-making or profiling with legal or similarly significant effects takes place.
Visit statistics: to understand which links bring readers and whether they go on to buy, the site records the pages viewed during one browsing session, where the visit came from (for example a Facebook post or a search engine), and whether a checkout was started or completed. A random visit code is kept in your browser only until you close the tab; no cookie is set, and no name, email address or IP address is stored with these statistics. They are used only by The Spore Patch Ltd for aggregate counts and are not shared with advertising platforms. Lawful basis: legitimate interests. You can object by contacting us, or by using your browser's private mode or blocking storage.
Processors and recipients
Information is handled on our behalf by the service providers that run this site: the hosting and deployment platform (which serves the pages and records aggregate visit statistics and technical request logs), the managed database and authentication service behind the evidence review console, and the email delivery provider used to send sign-in and notification messages. These providers act as processors under contract and may not use the information for their own purposes. Information is not sold, and is not shared for advertising. It may be disclosed where the law requires it, or to obtain professional legal advice.
International transfers
Some of these providers operate infrastructure outside the United Kingdom, including in the European Economic Area and the United States. Where information is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations or by the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, together with the providers' own technical safeguards.
Retention
- Aggregate visit statistics are retained in aggregate form for as long as they remain useful for understanding site use; they are not linked to a named individual.
- Correspondence is retained while it remains relevant to the published record — for a correction, this includes the life of the edition it affects, so that the provenance of a change can be shown; other enquiries are deleted once the matter is closed and no longer needed.
- Editorial account details are retained for as long as the account is active, and are removed when the account is closed, apart from audit entries recording who changed a published record, which are kept as part of the editorial audit trail.
- Technical security logs are retained only for the short period set by the provider.
Your rights
Where UK data protection law applies, you have the right to be informed about how your information is used; to request a copy of it; to have inaccurate information corrected; to ask for erasure; to ask for processing to be restricted; to data portability where processing is automated and based on consent or a contract; and to object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests, including at any time to processing for direct marketing. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. Requests are free of charge and answered within one month.
Requests can be sent to enquiries@thesporeoracle.world.

If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, please tell us first so that we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF, by telephone on 0303 123 1113, or at ico.org.uk.
